It don't mean a thing - Ella & JATP 1958

"It Don't mean a Thing Fitzgerald Ella/Peterson 1958

Jazz at the Philharmonic in Holland. Of course, jazz musicians were always welcomed and when the top musicians with Norman Granz's JATP wanted to come to the Netherlands the famous Amsterdam concertgebouw was offered for their concerts.
This clip is from a 1958 concert. We see and hear the Oscar Peterson trio with Ray Brown on bass and Herb Ellis on guitar. They perform together with Ella Fitzgerald, with solos of violinist Stuff Smith and trumpetplayer Roy Eldridge.
Quality filming and very good sound recording by the Dutch engineers.
This clip was found in Dutch film archives and recently broadcasted on TV. A friend was able to get me a copy and it is such a pleasure to be able to share it with so many"

I can't seem to find the rest of it  --  I think this excerpt is just wonderful - please listen and enjoy

Shooting

So, this 21 year old took his 1911 45ACP, with a seven round capacity magazine, to a Church - a predominantly African-American Church - and killed 9 people, RELOADING SEVEN TIMES.

I guess that means you do not need a 17 round magazine to be a horrible mass murderer.

Perhaps if one of the Deacons was trained, and carrying, there would have been less carnage.

I know that goes against the "left wing", anti-gun rhetoric, but it seems like common sense to me.

There are people preaching all sorts of anti-damn-near-everything stuff these days.  "Kill the gays", "kill the Muslims", "kill the whites", "kill the blacks", "get rid of the Mexicans", etc., etc., etc.

It was not an "anti-Christian" attack simply because the young man said, "you rape our women, and are taking over" (or words to that effect)  --  that's anti-Black, not anti-Christian.

I do not understand why any member of ANY threatened minority would not get their permit and legally carry a weapon.  The rhetoric is so over the top, those who PREACH this hatred never get prosecuted for inciting violence, and our society becomes that much more dangerous.

Perhaps that's why I've concentrated on putting up music lately.  There's so much stupidity going on that our "real" headlines look like they come from "The Onion".  It's just too much crazy.
