Primaries came and went. It was another election where the battle cry was, "throw the bums out".

Thirty year Senators could not win their primary. Conservative democrats lost to more liberal ones - or at least a run off was mandated. A "tea party" candidate beat the pick of the Republican Party, etc., etc., etc.

In other words -- we are, once again, getting rid of the "insiders" so we can breed a NEW CROP of "insiders".

It's not about one spasm, one candidate, one and done. It's about knowing where your self interest lies. It's about knowing how regulation has, over the years, helped the middle class. It's about understanding that rights are not a "zero sum game".

Poor folks who align with the rich because they think it might give them some advantage (it doesn't) have to confront reality.

Heck, if they ever do become rich, they will be able to hire those fancy lawyers every other rich person has to protect their interests.

Right now there is so damn much happening -- oil well blowout, Catholic Church, Thailand, LGBT rights (and loss of same), ENDA, DADT, attacks on Women's Rights, attacks on a woman's right to control her own body, the economy -- here in the USA and in Europe -- that the primary elections are just a little blip.

Yet, so many of the pundits think it's the MOST IMPORTANT THING HAPPENING.

It's not.

Perhaps the fact both Iraq and Afghanistan are going down the tube IS the MOST IMPORTANT THING HAPPENING.

No one wants to tackle those issues. No one wants to say -- BRING THEM HOME, CUT THE "DEFENSE" BUDGET, REBUILD THE COUNTRY, REBUILD THE SAFETY-NET, and begin to build a rational society.
