It is time to stop targeting people who happen to be different. It is not "religious discrimination" to stop YOU (or anyone else) from abusing ANY other human being.

‘My Name Was Not Eric, But Faggot’

The Trevor Project was created to help young LGBTQ people deal with the emotional challenges and baggage that too often leads many young people to give up on life. Thanks to thousands of people who wanted to let young LGBTQ kids know that, “It Gets Better,” the Trevor Project has made a difference in the lives of thousands of kids who don’t understand why the world wants to dump on them, because they don’t come out of the same cookie-cutter as everyone else.

EricJames Borges was one of the shining stars on the Trevor Project team. His skills and talents as a video producer are evident in this amazing video he recently produced and starred in:



Not only did the handsome, talented young man produce that beautiful video, he also made one of the hundreds of “It Gets Better Videos” found on YouTube. Like so many, Eric shared in his video, just how painful growing up was. Unfortunately, we quickly learn in watching this video that Eric has been to hell and back, more than once.



In spite of the hopeful message he so lovingly tried to convey in that video, this evening it became all too apparent, that the years of being rejected, bullied, emotionally battered and discarded like garbage by his own family, had taken their toll. EricJames Borges, age 19, took his own life this afternoon.

Why did this have to happen? Why did this beautiful soul who came to realize his worth as a human being, give up on life?

If you are anything like me, you too must be wondering about now, how? Why? This is so unfair! This didn’t have to happen? He knew it would get better, didn’t he?

Being LGBTQ is not a choice. Deciding whether or not to live or die is. EricJames Borges showed us today, that emotional wounds can be as fatal as any physical injury.

Let’s us give value to the love and hope Eric wanted to offer others. In his memory, let’s continue his work; tell his story and share his beautiful videos. In spite of his life being much too short, EricJames Borges leaves behind a remarkable legacy of hope. About love, the wise and insightful 19-year-old taught us:
