There are TWENTY-ONE (21) Starbucks locations in the entire State of Mississippi -- there are SEVENTY-EIGHT (78) in Dallas alone. Not the entire DFW Metroplex, but DALLAS.
When folks try to equate Texas with "the south" - they know not what they speak of. When they equate DFW with Texas -- they are also a tad bit confused.
Texas is so big that Texarkana and El Paso are like night and day. DFW and Austin are rather different, etc., etc., etc.
Always try to remember, the DFW Metroplex is the largest metropolitan area in the south and the fourth largest metropolitan area in the USA.
We have all sorts of pro sports teams (baseball, football, basketball, hockey, soccer), a large international airport (With 652,261 aircraft movements in 2010, it is the fourth busiest airport in the world in terms of aircraft movements. In terms of passenger traffic, it is the eighth busiest airport in the world transporting 56,906,610 passengers).
Very good museums that have gotten better and better every year, and a very good live music scene. I can't speak to the new opera house - as I haven't been there yet, but it seems to be far better than the old one. The DSO (Dallas Symphony Orchestra) has also gotten rave reviews.
Fort-Worth also has some great museums -- and they are growing, and broadening their scope.
All in all a really nice place to live - if the heat doesn't get to you. At least we have four seasons - even if spring and fall tend to be short. (It has been said, Dallas weather consists of early summer, summer, late summer, winter).
Good fishing is all around (as long as we continue to have lakes) and there are both indoor and outdoor ranges for sport shooting. Since I don't hunt, I can't comment on the availability.
All in all, a good place to live.
