Ever notice how they started calling it "The Heartland" not long after its industrial might was gutted, not long after they moved all the jobs out of the country, or out of town? It's as if getting a title was the consolation prize. After they left a bunch of polluted industrial sites, no longer fit for man or beast - "The Heartland". Now there's an "opioid crisis" in the former Midwest ( IE: "The Heartland") -- broken bodies, broken minds, people thrown away with no place to go.
Rather than deal with the fallout of greed, of jobs being moved for 1% more profit, we discard the workers, the people, then start another "War On Drugs" so those no longer warring against pot can still have jobs.
All this will make the "crisis" WORSE simply because those who actually NEED painkillers to function will get them wherever they can -- legal or not. A nation of 60, 70, 80 year old junkies.
Then what's left of our once strong middle class can go tsk, tsk, and continue along their merry way blaming those "weak people", those "losers", for being human, for being broken, for trying to keep body and soul together any way they can. It must be really tough to live in a place where your father and grandfather managed to make a good living -- and you can't even feed your family decently.
By the way ---- so far Trump is not the answer. Perhaps some REAL Democrats might be.
