It is now Dec. 9th. December 7th went by -- and for the first time I didn't even MENTION Pearl Harbor. WWII is fading from our national memory the same way WWI faded from my generations memory.
Today, unless you study history (or watch the History Channel), WWI is gone and forgotten. WWII is still being fought on some cable channels. At times I wonder why -- then I realize IT'S THE LAST WAR WE WON (unless you count Grenada).
It seems the attack on Pearl Harbor won't "live in infamy" -- though I think it should. I also think Jerry Della Femina's book about the advertising industry, should be remembered. For those who don't remember it: "From Those Wonderful Folks Who Gave You Pearl Harbor" - 1971.
Today, the Japanese nation is our friend - as is Germany. Interesting, isn't it.
Obviously we can't have a day to celebrate our entrance into WWII, but we should be able to mourn those who died in that attack.
It was a sneak attack - a "pre-emptive strike" if you will. In fact it could have been considered "shock and awe". Gosh, where did that strategy get the Japanese?
Well, eventually, after much pain, it led to a whole new industrial base. Brand new factories. New technology. So, they started making BETTER stuff -- leaving us to play "catch-up" for years.
Today, our new "Masters Of The Universe" seem to like pushing paper as opposed to actually getting dirty and MAKING THINGS. I think that's the reason we lost our manufacturing base -- the money guys didn't think it was cool enough. It was so "old tech". So like how their Grandfather made money - so uncool. Plus, you had to know all this factory stuff, and deal with actual, real, working types -- EVERY DAY.
Truly uncool.
Isn't anyone else tired of these dicks?
