By the way, until someone, anyone in "the political arena" starts to talk about POOR PEOPLE nothing will get done.
Not one thing.
When all the talk is about either "the rich", or "the middle class", poor folks will continue to be ignored.
The main problem most folks had with "The War On Poverty" is that it actually focused on POVERTY. Another complaint -- it was WORKING. We were actually winning the war on poverty. Then Nixon happened -- and he was a major architect of our "modern welfare state" -- the one his followers have run against - forever.
As a society we like to ignore uncomfortable issues - until our noses are rubbed in it. Then we get angry - and try to kill the messenger. Civil rights, workers rights, gay rights, women's rights, etc., etc., etc.. We do not want to deal with it.
We are a cowardly society.
