I was born in 1939 -- at that time the population of the world was 2.3 billion.
It is now 2011, the world population is expected to hit 7 billion this year. That is more than a threefold increase.
Some folks are estimating we will hit 9 billion by 2044.
Add that to global warming and its effects, food pressure, energy problems, petroleum scarcity, etc., etc., etc. -- once again, I'm happy to be almost 72 instead of 32.
Good luck to all.
