Look, I don't care if folks believe in God or Gods.  I don't care how devout they are, or how strongly they believe.  I don't even care if they are members of some obscure or even "scammish" "religion". 

I do care when being anti-woman is an integral part of that religion.  I also care when they use that religion to discriminate against people who have NOTHING to do with them.  I care when they think they are allowed to visit violence on other human beings because of some strange "custom" of their religion. 

It seems ALL major religions HATE women.  All are patriarchal.  All reserve the right to control, subjugate, demean, women  --  just for being women.

Covering up their faces, covering up their hair, having every aspect of their lives controlled by outdated "customs" and "religious edicts" says more about how PIGGISH men are, than it does about women.  The insane idea that all women lust uncontrollably after men, and can CORRUPT men with a smile or a word is beyond insane.  The idea women are neither entitled to, or ALLOWED an education is also totally INSANE!

I'm sick and tired of supposed "liberals" that excuse insane attitudes toward women by people because "it's part of their culture".  Spousal abuse was allowed by law in western cultures until very recently.  Women were considered property until recently.  Our record concerning women, here in the west, is far from spotless.  many folks still see women as vastly inferior to men, not "worthy" of equality.

At the same time  --  we have made a lot of progress over the last 60 - 100 years.  We have no reason to excuse things like "honor killings", nor any reason to support outdated attitudes toward women by ANY religious or secular group.  Roman Catholics, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, etc., etc., are ALL anti-woman to some extent  --  but it is our good friends the Muslims who are at the forefront.  Not only does this have to stop, but laws controlling anti-woman behavior MUST be both ohn the books AND enforced.

This is not about "custom" or "religious freedom", it's about violence toward 50% of the worlds population.

(Reuters) - A Pakistani couple killed their teenage daughter by pouring acid on her face and body after they caught her talking to a boy, police and a doctor said on Thursday.
The parents of the 16-year-old confessed to police in Kotli, a town in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, that they attacked their daughter after she had spoke to the boy outside their house, said Mohammad Jahangir, a local doctor at the hospital where she was brought.
"There were third-degree burns on her scalp, face, eyes, nostrils, both arms, chest foot and lower part of legs. Even her scalp bone was exposed," he said, adding that the mother initially told the hospital their daughter tried to commit suicide. Police have arrested the parents.
Almost 1,000 women lost their lives last year in so-called "honor killings" in the conservative South Asian nation, according to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan. Activists say the actual number is much higher as most cases go unreported.
