a shame

It seems Belgium can't deal with two languages, two different "cultures". Here in the USA we are roundly DAMNED if we can't integrate HUNDREDS of different ethnicities, languages, cultures.

Perhaps one reason we have been more successful than many is because most (not all) folks here CHOSE to come here.

Most folks cannot wrap their minds around the fact our African-American Citizens did NOT chose to come here -- they were bought and sold, dragged here against their will. I suspect that might make a total acceptance of "The American Dream" a tad difficult.

Anyway, we tend to do better than most over the long run.

Right now, insecurity, fear, and confusion has led, in part, to the increase of rabid nativism -- even though we tend to have more in common with our Mexican and Central American neighbors than we do with many other folks who appear to be more welcome.

Do you think RACISM has ANYTHING to do with this?
