Why Texas

Why Texas? Why did we move from N.Y. to TEXAS, of all places? Why to that land of ... (insert mistaken stereotype of choice)?

Well, first off, the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex has a world class airport, every possible sports team, very good museums, a good music scene, and goodly number of folks with rather progressive values.

Heck, we have Willie Nelson, had Ann Richards, and Molly Ivins -- as wel as many others.

Both N.Y. and California have more than there share of political CRAZIES.

At least Texas has more sensible gun laws -- why, two old ladies can go target shooting any time they want to -- and we can "defend the old homestead" without being seen as some sort of right-wing-crazies (which we are very far from).

In addition, the cost of living is well below that in either N.Y. or Ca., and the weather is much nicer than N.Y.

As a HUGE state, we have a VERY varied climate (just think, the distance from Texaskana to El Paso is greater than that of N.Y.C. to Chicago -- that's FAR), very varied topography, lots of trees and woods -- as well as plains and desert.

I live in a small city east of Dallas, in Dallas County, minutes away from a very nice lake (well stocked with fish) and twenty or so minutes from downtown Dallas, Plano is even closer -- though it can take about the same length of time. Lots of good restaurants -- and, not just expensive ones, nearby.

In addition, it's centrally located -- making it just as easy, or difficult, to go east or west.

all in all, a good choice.
