The weekend edition of Some Assembly Required has some very interesting stuff -- GO THERE! (follow link)
Here are two bits:
Red Herring: 'Structural unemployment' explains unemployment by saying the workers are not skilled enough. Yet if every open job in the country were filled, 80% of the unemployed would still be unemployed. Let 'structural unemployment' never pass your lips again – it blames the victims and apologizes for the overlords decimating America in the chase for profits.
Snow Job: Unemployment fell to 9.0% in January – mainly because people left the work force in droves, not because anyone found a job. The number of actually employed people dropped by more than 1.5 million. The economy added only 36,000 jobs – if it could add 246,000 a month for then next six years then we'd be back to where we were before the Great Readjustment began. Almost 15 million Americans are unemployed, another 9 million are working part time for economic reasons, and about 4 million more have left the labor force since the start of the recession Of those unemployed, 6.4 million have been unemployed for six months or more.
