There is also a S**TLOAD of new stuff out there (speaking of Jazz) -- and, I'm NOT talking about "smooth Jazz" -- even though some of those guys are good players.
Nor did I mention anything by any of the Marsalis family.
I didn't mention any of the real "oldtimers" -- say, like Kid Ory, or Teagarden, Pee Wee Russell, any of the "Austin High Gang" or any of our new breed of modern players.
There are a ton of great Jazz Organ players around, as well as so many amazing piano players that I can't even begin to know them all.
Cecil Taylor is someone you must hear. It's even better if you can see him in person. He can truly open new vistas for you.
Some of the good "free jazz" guys can end up making "sense" in altogether new ways -- but, you have to be open to the experience.
Go to new places in your head -- always remember ----- the stuff you dismissed 30 years ago is a cliche today. It was so "far out" you could not "get it" --- now, it's a part of "the tradition".
Open your mind.
