DADT

Can someone explain to me what all the fuss about "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is?

We are not allowed to marry. If our partners are hospitalized we are not even allowed to visit them in some states. We have to go through intense gyrations to inherit property, making sure lawyers who specialize in "gay matters" make a decent living.

In other words, we are not seen as citizens, equal to other citizens -- at the same time, some folks are fighting for the right to die for a country that does not value them (unless you're a great hairdresser, dancer, or performer).

If DADT is repealed, we will end up in the same position African-American folks were in prior to the civil rights movement.

Is that what you want?

At least African-American folks could marry, they could inherit, they got their partners pension or social security. We get none of those things.

Do you really want to fight and perhaps die for a country that treats you so poorly? Do you want to be seen as equal in the Armed Services, only to return to second class citizenship once you come home?

Isn't the fact we pay taxes enough?

If we cannot be accepted as equal citizens, why should we fight? Especially now that some have "dropped the gloves", saying we should be prosecuted, incarcerated, perhaps even executed (as per "Biblical Law").

The only positive is that some of us might just begin to think realistically about self defense after serving in the armed forces.
