We went ou for dinner tonight. Early dinner at a place called Babe's in Garland, Texas. They serve a limited menu, all done family style. The food is very good, and very reasonable.
Anyway, this is not about food, or restaurants -- it's about SUV's and folks who drive them.
On our way home, along some two lane back roads, we hit a fairly bumpy section. Not potholes, nothing to destroy tires or wheels, just a series of bumps. Directly in front of us was some guy driving his monstrouso 4 wheel drive, massive vehicle. One of those things named for some mountain, or continent -- something "rugged", "tough", "manly", etc., etc., etc. -- a testosteronemobile.
As we went over this bumpy section, with headlights coming at us, the other way, said tough guy driving his tough vehicle went into the other lane, going directly toward oncoming traffic to AVOID THE BUMPS! This in a super-rugged SUV/truck -- not one of those wimpy crossovers.
It just made me stop and think ---- why in hell did he buy this huge thing? Why not buy a sensible , pussy car like our VW Jetta?
To buy a vehicle that promotes its toughness -- then be afraid of bumps (not really big ones at that) seems very strange to me -- but then again, what do I know --- I'm "just" a girl.
