Unemployment Extensions

Today there was a thing in The Washington Post asking if unemployment insurance benefits have become permanent.

Right after Bunning put his stop on any extension, I said to my partner that folks are not honest enough to say unemployment insurance has become WELFARE for middle aged white people -- some of whom will never have a decent job again -- or at least not for a while.

Heck, they've been doing that sort of stuff in various parts of Europe for a while. I think it works out to be cheaper than "make work" projects are.

We still NEED another stimulus program -- build new bridges, fix roads, revamp PUBLIC education, etc. --- but that still doesn't help middle aged White (or Black, or Latino) office workers. They can't ALL work for the government -- can they?

Then again, maybe they can cut grass, be "pool boys" (does that job really exist), bus boys, etc., and let all the young able bodied guys do the heavy work.

So, do you think all the unemployed Republicans will be willing to accept "welfare"?
